41 people from across the county gathered on Saturday, 1st March, for the first ever Cumbria Climate Assembly.
The members of the Assembly will meet over six sessions to answer the question: “Many people in Cumbria feel unheard and unable to influence those who make decisions on climate change action. What can be done about this? ”
Residents from Walney Island to Brampton, and Whitehaven to Shap, gathered together to share their opinions and ideas about climate change. An introduction to the topic was given by Dr Richard Waller from Keele University. The participants then drew on their own knowledge to think about who the decision makers are, and what is effective in getting people’s voices heard.
