It’s recycle week! And the perfect time to flag up some of the services here in Cumbria that will support your recycling needs – reducing the rubbish in landfill, reusing vital resources and lowering our carbon footprint.
The theme this year is all about those items that you may not realise can be recycled. They have called it ‘missed capture’ : recyclable items that are commonly missed in the home, including empty aerosols, food tins, plastic cleaning and toiletry bottles, pots, tubs and trays. For example – aerosol cans – did you know that if everyone in the UK recycled an empty aerosol, enough energy would be saved to run a TV in 273,000 homes for a year?
The campaign takes you through top tips, room by room of your house – and tackles the misconceptions about what can and can’t be recycled. Item such as envelopes (even those with windows), empty pizza boxes and even kitchen foil.
