Deluge: A conversation, Friday 28th February, 2025, 1 – 5pm
Deluge is a collaboration between three artists and three saltmarsh habitats in northern Europe which explores tidal wetland ecosystems across the sites of Aberlady, East Lothian, Scotland, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England and Schiermonikoog, The Wadden Sea, The Netherlands.
Commencing with a relay-style travelling residency in 2022, the three artists took turns to visit and spend time in each of the saltmarshes, through which this series of works has since developed and been produced.
Organised alongside the exhibition, this community conference will conclude two years of research and art work focused. The event will include conversations and presentations from the Deluge artists, ecologists and salt marsh experts, connecting the three tidal wetland saltmarsh ecosystems and discussing their crucial role in marine carbon sequestration.
Chaired by David Haley, Art Gene Trustee and artist, our speakers are: Nick O’Keefee; Coastal expert and Lead Advisor at Natural England, Charlotte Braungardt; Environmental Scientist (with expertise in Marine Biogeochemistry); Ecologist Jenny Holden, and artists Dana Olărescu, Linde Ex and Oscar Van Heek.
The event will take place in the Art Gene Gallery, 1.00 – 5.00pm. It is free of charge and refreshments will be served. Booking is essential via Eventbrite.
