Climate Solutions for Cumbrian Landscapes: Peatlands

Tue 17 January @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Discover the power of peatlands to help tackle the climate crisis!

Peatlands store more carbon than all the world’s other vegetation types combined. Here in Cumbria’s cool and wet climate, it’s estimated that there are more than 88,000 hectares of peatland soils. They’ll play a vital role in Cumbria achieving the overall goal of net zero by 2037 – but only when they’re in good condition, which many of them aren’t.

At this online event, you’ll learn about the science of blanket peatlands, how they could help to cut Cumbria’s emissions, and examples of work under way to protect this vital resource.

Among the expert contributors you’ll hear from are the University of Cumbria, North Pennines AONB, and the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership.
