Climate Solutions for Cumbrian Landscapes: Rivers

Wed 8 February @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Take a whistlestop tour around the climate challenges and solutions for Cumbria’s rivers with this online Zero Carbon Cumbria event.

Water water everywhere… Cumbria’s image has long been synonymous with lakes and with rain, but the direct impacts of a changing climate are already being experienced through our rivers and water resources. Cumbrian homes and businesses have been devastated by recent major flood events, even destroying critical infrastructure such as bridges and roads.

Climate forecasting predicts more extreme weather patterns, leading to increasing frequency and severity of both flooding and droughts in the north of England.

However, rivers also form a vital part of climate solutions. Restoring rivers and surrounding habitats can actively reduce harmful emissions and increase carbon uptake. Improving water quality aids nature recovery, and reduces the energy needed to treat water for humans.

Hear from a range of guest speakers at this free event by Cumbria Action for Sustainability, funded by the National Lottery as part of the Zero Carbon Cumbria programme.
