Changemakers of Tomorrow: Youth Climate Leadership Programme
In July, in partnership with Another Way, CDEC and Brathay Trust, we ran a residential event for young people passionate about climate change and who wanted to build their confidence and skills as climate leaders.
Hosted at Brathay Trust, the programme used practical outdoor activities to:
- gain confidence and skills for taking part in climate action, which included leadership, communication, and having difficult conversations around climate topics
- build project management skills with time to plan a climate action project
- build connections and friendships to strengthen their networks
The event was hailed as a success with the young people identifying a variety of eco projects and campaigns to work on in their school, college, workplace or community. They all said they’d gained or developed a wide variety of skills, including working as a team, building confidence, presentation skills, how to stay positive, finding support, logistics around projects, building connections and overcoming challenges.
“The Changemakers of Tomorrow Residential was great! I loved the way campaign work was merged with outdoor activities. I learnt how to overcome challenges in much simpler ways and found out what support is available for me which will be great for helping with any campaigns I want to do in the future!!”
