If you work in education you will be aware of the DfE’s sustainability strategy for September 2025. As part of the strategy all education settings are expected to have a sustainability lead, and a climate action plan, in place for September 2025. You can read more here.
As part of a package for support for schools a ‘Climate Ambassadors’ scheme has been launched that places volunteer experts with schools and settings that are looking for specific support in developing their climate action plan. The volunteers can offer a wide range of support, such as in renewable energy advice, biodiversity options, or even in a bit of passion and motivation. Other areas of support provided by the DfE include from the National Education Nature Park, Sustainability Support for Education, Let’s Go Zero Climate Action Advisors and other, locally based, organisations. Climate Ambassador volunteers are will signpost settings to these resources, and help pull together an action plan in areas that could seem overwhelming for some.
In the first 18 months the scheme supported over 80,000 learners and teachers and reached over 500 schools and colleges.
