Delia Smith To Join Cumbria Climate Assembly Members for National Launch Event

Delia Smith, Britain’s most trusted cook, will be in conversation with members of the Cumbria Climate Assembly for a special national launch event, happening online on Thursday 23 October.

Funded by the National Lottery, the Assembly brought together 42 randomly selected Cumbrian residents to tackle a pressing question: “Many people in Cumbria feel unheard and unable to influence those who make decisions on climate change action. What can be done about this?”. Over several weeks, assembly members developed a thoughtful set of recommendations and, for the first time, a set of public engagement principles focused on climate-related issues.

This free event will highlight not only the Assembly’s outcomes, but also the process that enabled ordinary citizens to help shape a people-centred response to climate change, which puts local voices at the heart of decision-making.

Delia Smith, a longtime champion of listening to everyday voices, praised the initiative, “The assembly members worked hard to answer a vital question: how do we make sure local people aren’t shut out of decisions about climate and our future? I can’t wait to hear their answers. Please join me.”
