Support for businesses in Barrow & South Lakes to cut carbon

Businesses in two districts in Cumbria can tap into free one-to-one support to reduce their carbon emissions.

Ten small to medium businesses in Barrow can apply for a carbon footprint calculation and a building energy audit, fully funded by Barrow Borough Council.

They’ll also benefit from an environmental impact audit and get recommendations for reducing energy use, renewable energy generation and other top tips to reduce the business’s carbon footprint.

With just ten places available on a first-come-first-served basis, businesses are urged to apply as quickly as possible.

The support is delivered by Cumbria Action for Sustainability on behalf of of the council. Visit the CAfS website to find out more and apply. Please do share the link with any businesses you know in Barrow!

Meanwhile, the neighbouring district of South Lakeland is offering carbon reduction support to 12 small to medium businesses. Around half the places will go to hospitality businesses, given it’s a significant sector in South Lakes and one where there are great opportunities to make carbon savings.

All the businesses will receive up to 20 hours of one-to-one support and the option of a subsidised energy audit to help them identify ways to use less energy, also helping to cut their energy bills.

The support time could be used to help the businesses calculate their carbon footprint, investigate and progress particular solutions, or link them up to the numerous programmes of support that are happening across Cumbria.

This package, too, is delivered by Cumbria Action for Sustainability, and businesses can find out more and apply via the CAfS website.
